Who loves omelets?? Eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, tomatoes, onion, green onions, cheese....an omelet is pretty much one of those things that, if you like it, put it together with an egg and WA-LA!! Well, what about an omelet in a Ziploc bag? With your name on the Ziploc bag? :)
First you line up all the little crumb snatchers (aka, kids, husbands, boyfriends, etc...although I don't recommend having the husband and the boyfriend over for this culinary delight at the same time ;), give each one a Ziploc bag and let them write their name on the bag. Ok...now this is where it gets hard. You take a large pot and fill it with water, get the water boiling. (ok, it's gonna be a little easier from here on out) Take one egg, two eggs, three eggs or four, however many you want for "your" omelet, because this recipe is "to each their own". Crack your egg and put it in your Ziploc bag. Then add whatever your little heart desires to your bag!! For my omelet, I use:
- 1 egg
- salt and pepper, to taste
- cheese
- butter (maybe 1 or 1 1/2 teaspoons)
- "real" bacon bits
- cooked, scrambled sausage
- cheese, did I already mention cheese? :)
Once you have everything added to your bag, zip it up, and squeeze the bag until your yolk breaks and you've mixed your ingredients together. Drop your bag into the boiling water, and boil for 15 minutes. (You can cook several bags at one time, FYI, that's why you write your name on the bag!) When you get your bag out of the water, open it up...your own personalized omelet slides right out of the bag on to your plate and is ready for consumption!! Oh, so, GOOD!!!!
This recipe is especially great for kids because they get to help cook and is amazed that what you pay an arm and a leg for at Ihop...can be done at home, in your pajamas! It is sooo much fun! Me, Whit and Holly tried this out and they loved it...hope you do too!!
